    Peter L Cann

    April 3, 2021

Peter Laurence Cann passed away peacefully at Francis House April 3, after a lengthy battle with Sarcoma.  Peter was born in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School.  He obtained a BS from Northeastern University while beginning a 30-year career at Carrier Air Conditioning as a Mechanical Engineer.   During that time, he earned a MS in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA at Syracuse University.  After Carrier, he became the Director of The Madison County IDA, where he enjoyed supporting others in their business endeavors.  Peter’s true passion was green energy and the environment, eventually opening his own business Cann Geothermal Plus. Peter always cared about others and the community.  He volunteered in local organizations, such as the Lions Club, Rotary, Madison County Planning Board, the Chittenango School Board, The Link Trail and Madison County Search and Rescue.  He was also strongly passionate about being in nature on his beloved 70-acre wooded backyard. Peter is survived by Nancy, his wife of 50 years, who fearlessly fought this battle with him every step of the way, his daughter Jessica Brickey (Mark) and granddaughter Tessa of Richmond, VA, his son Jeff (Danielle), three grandchildren, Andrew, Nathaniel, and Leah of Chittenango, NY, his brother Michael (Cyndee) of Lake Ariel, PA,  his sister Carroll Leonovich, of Sedro Woolley, WA, niece Holly Deutsch (Alan), nephews Geoffrey Axtell (Pamela), Toli Leonovich (River), and their families, and several very special Currier cousins.  His father, Richard Cann and mother Aldyth Currier Cann predeceased Peter.  Nancy, Jess and Jeff would like to extend gratitude to the ongoing love and support from friends and relatives both near and far.  They would never have been able to travel this journey for as long as they did without them. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to Francis House for the compassionate care given to Peter and family. At this time there will be no calling hours.  Contributions in Peter’s memory may be made to Francis House, The Sarcoma Foundation of America or a charity of your choice.

So sorry to hear about Peter Cann. I worked with him on many projects at Carrier back in the day. Pete was ALWAYS one of the BEST engineers I have worked with for many years. Always easy to work with on projects and very supportive in any projects I was involved with even if it was not his project. He was the the essence of the word "engineer" at Carrier. Proud of the time I had working with him. Always supportive even if he was "wrong" (I think) during a project. I will remember Pete forever.
