    MARGARET G. “SUE” MYERS

    March 14, 2021

Margaret “Sue” Myers, 79, of Chittenango passed away Sunday at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville following many years with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Fayetteville and lived with her parents Daniel W. and Margaret “Peg” Gridley. When she was young she attended Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. She attended the Covent School and graduated from Fayetteville High School. During her school years she worked at Bishop Foery Day Camp working with their horse program giving rides on “Tony the Pony”. At the age of 16 she bought her first horse riding bareback from Jamesville to Fayetteville. After graduation Sue was employed by Grand Union Supermarkets where she was employed mainly in the bakery department as a cake decorator. Sue married Robert “Bob” Myers in May of 1966 and they resided in Fayetteville. Their son William “Bill” was born in August of 1969. They were introduced to each other at (of all places) a Circle M Riding Club meeting by the late Norm Putnam. In 1970 they moved to Chittenango and built a beautiful family horse farm, raising Appaloosa horses and boarding horses for families around the area. Sue’s love for chickens started with backyard birds in Fayetteville. On the farm her chicken fancy developed into breeding and raising top quality, prize winning Black Langshans. She belonged to the Finger Lakes Feather Club and showed her birds throughout NY and many N.E. states winning her class and breed as well as several Super Champion of the entire show. She also raised bronze turkeys and a few peacocks and thoroughly enjoyed showing and taking to young visiting school classes about her birds. Sue and Bob enjoyed trail riding and showing. Starting in 1997, Sue and Bob traveled west spring and fall for vacations working at Cattle Ranches (Guest Ranches) helping to move, sort and brand etc. Sue was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Chittenango where she was a member of the funeral ministry group. She is survived by her husband Bob of 54 years, her son William and wife Allison (Cobb) of Bend, Oregon, her sister Ann L. Scheuer (Mark) of Longs, South Carolina, cousins Ed and George Gridley of Fayetteville, Carol  (Gridley) Wistrip of Cazenovia, Carol Fen of Bay Harbor, Florida and Sally Bechdell of State College, PA.She was predeceased by her sister Mary A. Gridley. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Crouse Community staff for providing an extraordinary level of compassionate care for Sue and friendship to Bob. I have so many fond childhood memories of visiting the Chittenango farm - sleigh rides, train set, her casual tolerance of kids learning 80's dance steps to the Hooked on Phonics clicktrack next to where Sue was (trying) to work ... I've always kept Sue's life wisdom of recording the turkey's name on the frozen meat close to heart (i.e., always authentically appreciate where your food comes from - the honesty benefits the meal and life). She was so unique. Warm regards to the family.
