    Gilbert Cox Sr. “Grampa Gilly”, 94 of Chittenango passed away peacefully Tuesday at the Oneida ECF. Gil was born in Perryville and resided in Chittenango for 66 years. He had owned the Oswego Tavern for several years, the Seneca Tavern in Chittenango for 12 years, he drove school bus for the Chittenango School District and retired from the NYS Thruway Authority after 13 years. His favorite things besides spending time with his family was spending time with his 2 cats, gardening, hunting and watching nature shows. He had a loving heart and many friends, everybody liked “Gil”. We would like to thank the staff at Oneida Extended Care for the wonderful care and compassion they gave him and his wonderful neighbor John for being a great friend to him. We will miss him but he will be forever in our hearts. He was predeceased by his parents, Clinton and Annette Cox, his wives Vivian in 1962 and Gloria in 2000, his sister Sandra, brothers Douglas and Jimmy, stepdaughter Carol and stepsons, Barry, Charles, Allan and Dennis. He is survived by his daughter Mickey (Dave) Roach of Chittenango, his son Gilbert Jr. (Jean) of Oneida, sister Regina of Florida, brother David of Chittenango, his stepchildren, David French, Neal (Sherry) French, Kim (Trudy) French and Dawn Scott, many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4-6 pm Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the G. F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Contributions in Gil’s memory may be made to Wanderer’s Rest, 7138 Sutherland Dr. Canastota, NY 13032.
