    Jeannine F. Burghard
    December 26, 2020

Surrounded by wonderful caretakers at Morrisville Community Nursing Center, and family in spirit, Jeannine F. Burghard of Chittenango drifted into heaven on Saturday December 26, 2020. She was 90. She passed from complications due to COVID-19. Daughter of the late Louis and Myrtle Ingerson, Jeannine was predeceased by the love of her life — her husband, George, in 2008, and their daughter Cherrie Anne in 1988; as well as her sister Betty (Mike) Dapolito, her brother Dick Ingerson and a grandson Shannon. Jeannine was born and raised in Fayetteville, NY. She attended Wellwood School for all 12 years and graduated in 1948. Jeannine and George met at Suburban Park in the summer of 1946 and married July 23, 1948. They were happily married for 60 years. Jeannine and George owned Burghard’s Flower & Gift Shoppe, 214 W. Genesee St. in Chittenango, for 14 years, until their retirement in January, 1989. Jeannine was a wonderful cook and crafter. She was well known for her delicious apple pies and potato salad. Family and friends proudly display her beautiful crocheted doilies and crosses. She also was a gifted flower designer. Jeannine was admired for being a sweet, soft-spoken Christian with a kind heart, who was quick to laugh. Her smile brightened all who knew her, especially the loving care workers at Morrisville Community Nursing Center. An intricate purple “Tree of Life” quilt, made by her daughter Lauren Hilfiker and displayed on D wing there, was her family’s way of thanking the staff for their compassion and care. Jeannine will be missed by all her friends and relatives, including her sister-in-law Phyllis Ingerson, brother-in-law Armand Burghard (late wife Doris), sister-in-law Marie (late husband Paul) Burghard and sister-in-law Eleda (Chuck) Roberts. Jeannine is survived by her beloved caregiver and daughter-in-law Patricia Burghard of Chittenango; daughter Lauren (David) Hilfiker of North Carolina, and son Philip J. Burghard of Missouri. Jeannine is also survived by her grandchildren Jay Burghard, Janice (Gavin) Stone, Jonathan (Amy) Hilfiker, Amberly (Anthony) Maestas, Shawnda Burghard, Jeannine (Doug) MacKay, and Brenda (Massey Sr.) Buhl; 15 great-grandchildren: Alea, Dylan, Tayler, Layla, William, Kaylee, Starla, Massey Jr., Serenity, Chloe, Cynthia, Brandon, Courtney, Xander and Domminic; one great-great granddaughter: Isabella; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.Jeannine was a parishioner and flower designer at the First Baptist Church in Chittenango. In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Jeannine can be made to support the ministry of First Baptist Church, 520 Tuscarora Rd, Chittenango, NY 13077. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in 2021 due to coronavirus restrictions.
