    July 23, 2020

Alan T. Drescher, 80, of Chittenango, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday. Alan was born on March 8, 1940 in Meriden, CT, to Burton and Virginia (Wrinn) Drescher. He graduated from Lyman Hall High School, went on to serve in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1962. During his service, while attending Syracuse University, he met Bonnie (Hatzinger) Drescher and they married in 1963. Alan went on to work as a switchman for NY Telephone/Verizon for 40 years until his retirement in 2003.

Al was a kind and spirited man whose family meant everything to him. He had a fun sense of humor that remained strong, making us laugh even when we wanted to cry. Mostly, he was "all in" whether supporting his family, helping out a neighbor, solving a problem or fighting his illness. Alan is survived by his wife, Bonnie; their five children and their families, daughters Laurie (Marty) Bickford, Elena (Janet O’Mara) Drescher, Amy (Bruce) Kackison, Jennifer (Raymond) Drescher-Miller, and son Ryan (Maria Malagisi) Drescher. Ten grandchildren Ashley, Chelsea, Dylan, Kara, Lindsay, Jordan, Camryn, Sophia, Emerson, and Rita. Two grand-dogs Olivia and Marcie. Six great grandchildren Mason, Skylar, Jaxson, Caliana, Elliott and Elodia. Alan is also survived by his brother, John (Phyllis) Drescher, and sister-in-law, Rhonda Drescher, and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Alan was predeceased by his parents, brother Wayne Drescher, sister Lois Drescher, and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Cooper. Special thanks to his amazing caregivers and his favorite troublemaker, Jessica Baum. Calling hours will be 5pm-7pm on Wednesday, July 29 at G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home , 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango, and an outdoor committal service will follow on Thursday at 10am at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chittenango. Facemasks and social distancing will be required at both services. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to Clearpath for Veterans, any Parkinson's Disease Foundation or The Multiple Sclerosis Society.
