    Robert L. Dibble, 91, of Chittenango passed away Saturday evening at his home. Bob was a life resident of the Lakeport – Chittenango area. Bob was employed for 20 years at the former Sims Casting in Syracuse retiring in 1988 as the General Manager. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, from 1944 - 46 serving aboard the USS Ottawa. The ship was in Okinawa when the suicide bombers took out a destroyer ship. The USS Ottawa was one of the first at Nagusaki after the bombing to disembark the Marines. Bob was a 78 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chittenango. He was a member of the William Cain American Legion Post #1287 in Chittenango and was a past member of Chittenango Volunteer Fire Company. Bob was an avid golfer and bowler, bowling a sanctioned 800 series at the age of 80. When he was a young man his nickname was “Dib” Dibble. He and his friends had a Chittenango Creek challenge to see who was the first to jump into the creek in the New Year and Dib won jumping in February. He also fly fished Chittenango Creek as a kid, ice fished Oneida Lake and swam Green Lakes diving down into the caves. He was predeceased by 2 sons, Robert W. and Charles D. Surviving is his wife of 70 years, the former Ruth Leaman, a daughter Barbara Fischer of Ft. Pierce, Florida and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be 10:00 am Friday, May 19, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Chittenango, 118 Arch St.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango.
